Refereeing Course 14 July
Fred Cross will be holding another refereeing course on the 14th July, starting at 6:30pm at North End Squash Club.
Please contact Fred Cross if you wish to attend.
It is compulsory that all new players to interclub attend one of these sessions. If you are a new player you MUST attend this course if you have not already done so. If you do not attend you are not eligible to play interclub.
This course is not only for new players - a refresher to all players is advisable.
All clubs were also issued with a DVD on refereeing by Squash Otago to let players take it home and view it at leisure.

University Games 2008
We sent a small team of four to the University Games in Rotorua. Despite the small numbers the team performed with distinction. Sarah Laurenson was the standout, collecting a silver medal in the girl's event. Nick Braae and James Liley also played well to record top-8 finishes in the men's draw. Geoff McDonald rounded out the team. Although he lost both games, he deserves much credit for his social participation and enthusiasm. He was active in making new friends from other universities. The team looks to build on these results and reclaim the title at New Plymouth in 2009.

Online booking update - good things take time
There have been a few bumps in the road, but hopefully we're back on track. The launch date for our new booking system has been pushed back another week due to power spikes in the little office downstairs. We're getting up close and personal with some sparkies to get it fixed asap.
Thanks for your patience and sorry for the confusion.
Meanwhile, keep an eye out at the pictures up the top of the website - they're going to finally be updated! Package and Bats have decided to give them a spruce up.
Committee meeting - 30-03-08
Another stirling meeting! Download the minutes.
Otago Festival Open and Queenstown Open
Congratulations to all those who managed to pick up a prize in the Otago Festival and Queenstown opens. It's good to see the uni guys supporting tourneys throughout Otago because it means we'll get more entries to ours in August!
Grading for new players
Hey Guys,
Are you keen to play interclub?
Well to play you need to be graded first.
For FREE grading for girls please come along to the club in your gear on Tuesday the 4th of March at 6pm. If this doesn’t suit you we’ll run a second grading session same time on Tuesday the 11th of March.
For FREE grading for boys please come along to the club in your gear on Wednesday the 5th of March at 6pm. If this doesn’t suit you we’ll run a second grading session same time on Wednesday the 12th of March.
For those of you already graded, just letting you know Squash NZ has changed the grading scheme. Squash NZ are wanting to strengthen the F grade throughout all districts. So therefore if you are in the bottom half of E2 and would like to be regraded, you guys are also most welcome to come down on those days!
We’ll send you a reminder on Monday so you don’t forget!
Cheers,
Emma McKeown (womens club captain)
Dave Ballantyne (dballantyne33@hotmail.com) (mens club captain)
Online booking system
Finally you'll be able to book courts from your flat and know when NOT to turn up because the courts are all in use! This is an exciting development for the club and should see the end of the issues with Court 3, cancelled bookings and the trouble of having to be at the club to book a court.
We're aiming to have the system installed within a week or there abouts - you might've noticed a spastastic shelf and a clean, very new piece of plexiglass donated by Tony Johnston from Miller Studios (many thanks, Tony - much appreciated) in at the club. Keep your eyes peeled for the club PC which should appear there soon.
To get to the booking system, there will be links provided from here, plus everyone will recieve an email.
NZ Grading System adjustment
25/02/2008 - Adjustments to Operation of Grading System will come into effect on the March 1 grading list.
The first adjustment for 2008 is to change the point at which the points won and lost bias is removed. Currently it is between C1 and B2.
It is intended to lower the ‘cross-over' point down to C2-C1.
Outcome: Players in the J5 to C2 grades with a 50/50 win/loss record will continue to progress up the grading list as they do at present. Players above C2 will require a better than 50/50 win/loss record, to progress up the grading list.
The second adjustment for 2008 is to reduce the total point range in the B2 scale from 400 points down to 300 points, and increase the points in the C1 scale from 300 points up to 400 points.
To best view the changes, visit the Grading List page.
Minutes available online
Minutes from committee meetings will now be available online.
Locks change
The locks/keys will be changed on the 20th February (Wednesday of O-week), old members can take their keys back to Clubs and Socs to get a $5 refund for handing 'em in.
Happy new year!
Open day for the club will be held on Friday 29 February, starting at 6pm at the club. It's also our first club night of the year. Don't be shy, turn up and have a yarn or a hit or a sausage from the barbie.
We'll also have a tent in the union all O-Week with a micro court for you to have a bash around in. You can come and find out what we're all about (...squash) and even fill out some forms to join up for the year.
All old news items have been archived, so if you want to see what we did last year, check it out.
Check out the committee for 2008, it's lacking a few of the big names from last year sadly, but I'm sure we'll manage with the new blood.
Congratulations to Mike and Jules who have decided to tie the knot! On behalf of all of us, best wishes and good luck for the future... hopefully we'll be seeing lots of mini Mike's and Jules' in the near future (they'll have perfect judgement of angles and distances and will eat only healthy food... how could they go wrong?!).
